I came across the following links while reading some of the posts at the Slowtwitch.com forums. The first video is from Ironman Hawaii in 1989. It is a highlight video of the battle between Dave Scott and Mark Allen. This video is part one of this battle, over to the right on the page are links to 5 more parts...

The second video (link) is from the 1982 Ironman and shows the famous finish of Julie Moss, the finish that probably launched the "Ironman Craze". I'll have more to say about the "Ironman Craze" later...
