Comments:
Avg pace - 6:03, Avg HR - 181, Max HR - 193, Mile splits - 6:00, 6:02, 5:59(not a full mile), 4th OA with a time of 18:03, course .12 mile short... Felt like this was one of my smarter races run in a while, nice even & measured effort, didn't go out too fast and moved up to 4th after being in 10th a mile in.

The Beginning...
In 1974 on my first b-day it would look like I was destined to become a pyromanic! But this
early obsession with fire dulled and was later replaced with an obsession for A & W teddy-bears
and Root Beer Floats. I even went so far as to state that "I wanted to be the fatest man in the world"!
I'm still working on that one...
Fortunately this love of A & W was off-set with an active family life as pictured below on Mt. Lassen.
You can also see I was delvoping a very unique sense of style, which I have to this day. It was the 70's in
California, the early "Hippie" influence would have an effect...

Early Competition...
I began playing tennis when I was 13. By the time I was 15 I was playing in tournaments at the
Eureka, CA Indoor Tennis Club. My weighty aspirations regarding my girth and improving my tennis game
conflicted. When it was reported that my tennis hero, Ivan Lendal biked 20 miles a day, I decided I
would do the same. I started biking daily and signed
up for several races including a 100 mile bike race/tour. I'm pictured here getting dropped at the start of
my first bike race. Eventually cycling and bike racing replaced tennis as my primary sporting interest. My First Triathlon
In 1989 I completed my 1st triathlon as a 15 year old. I led all other 15 year old and younger athletes into the pool, the last event. However, my two minute lead was not enough in the
400 yard swim and I ended up getting second in my age group. I decided that running
and swimming wasn't for me... Cycling was getting to be too expensive and my interest in it wained,
at least as far as racing was concearned. I hung up the racing cleats for what I thought was for good.
Exactly what happened for the next 12 years is a little foggy. It is rumored I lived in a 1970's VW
"Hippe" van traveling the country.
The 21st Century...

In 2001 I reached my peak weight of 200 lbs. I was challenged to run my first 5k race, the Hot 'n' Hilly Power House 5k. It was a weak field so I managed a 3rd place in my age group despite only running a 24:19. My competitive spirit took over. Since that time I've competed in over 100 running, biking, and multisport events. I hope to compete in 100's more!
Eventually I will be offering coaching services so I can pass on the things I've learned to others looking to make dramatic improvements in running, biking, or swimming.
My top results are listed here.
